Now that the Big Machine is here, we can complete the clearing phase. Steve fell eighty seven trees and removed all the limbs and branches called limbing in lumberjack language. Then he cut the logs into appropriate lengths called bucking. The excavator will easily clear away the felled trees and organize them into neat stockpiles.

In this video you will see:

  • Unloading the excavator in 30 seconds.

  • Practice handling the excavator with mulch first.

  • Steve discusses his strategy - While clearing away trees is today's plan, preserving select mature trees is a high priority. How can we minimize the disturbance to the surface of the site with such heavy machinery?

  • Time-lapse of clearing away logs.

  • She's only 5' tall. Can she operate a 39,000 lbs. earth moving machine?

  • Steve's favorite weather.

  • What I look like when I'm doing my favorite thing.

  • Instead of tracking over the moss, Steve chains logs and I drag them away

  • We make a great team :)
